Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) is the second most common form of skin cancer. There are more than 700,000 cases diagnosed every year.
OVERVIEW
This skin cancer may occur in all areas of the body including mucous membranes and genitals. SCCs are most common in the epidermis, or those areas frequently exposed to sunlight. The most common areas include the top of the ear, lower lip, face, bald scalp, neck, hands, arms and legs.
These areas often appear as thick, rough, scaly patches that can bleed if irritated. Most will resemble a wart and sometimes appear as open sores with a raised border and a crusted surface.
The most common treatment options include; cryosurgery, excision of the malignant lesion and MOHS surgery.
